Angle’s work for another client, Reginald Ames, caught the attention of The Savoy in London. After helping Reginald Ames with their proposals to The Savoy, we were asked to design The Savoy’s green tea envelopes. This tea would be put on display throughout the prestigious hotel and sold in the hotel shop.
The best ideas always seem to come from humble beginnings. The initial concepts for The Savoy green tea packaging were hand drawn and simple.
It was clear that any packaging for The Savoy needed to be strong and striking. We had to make sure the packaging portrayed the elegance and prestige associated with The Savoy brand. Sizing was also paramount. You may have noticed that tea envelopes are fairly small, it’s quite a skill to be able to fit all the information required onto them.
Once we were happy with the initial concepts, we tidied them up, transferred them into a more presentable format (one doesn’t present hand drawn designs to The Savoy, no matter how good they are) and talked them through with our client.
We presented several concepts to The Savoy, each variations of the simple, elegant theme we originally drew by hand. We worked with The Savoy to refine the preferred design, then we set to work producing the final print ready artwork.
